06 / Outbound · ABM, the slow way

A bound report.
On every desk
you actually want.

Cold email is a queue; a printed report is a desk. We research a named buyer, diagnose their growth gap, write a bespoke bound report, and land it by tracked courier on a Tuesday morning. Nobody throws away the nicest envelope they’ll receive this quarter.

Our premise

Every other outbound channel has degraded. Email reply rates are at 1.2%. LinkedIn is a noise ceiling. Meanwhile nobody is mailing anything. The gap is obvious, we just decided to mail something nobody throws away.

Cold email is a queue.
A bound report is a desk.
That difference is the entire pitch.

On desks. Not in inboxes.

A blue-hour executive desk, a kraft envelope with hand calligraphy and a wax seal, opening into a full atelier package. The shape of a piece nobody throws away.

The four desks

Four desks. One landed package.

Research, write, print, deliver. The four stations that have to run together to put a piece of work on a buyer’s desk that they read instead of discard, and remember three weeks later when you call.

Four-desk ABM atelier: research, write, print, deliver.
the.atelier
  • Desk 01

    Account research

ICP definition, target-account scoring, and decision-maker identification per account, the actual buyer, not the gatekeeper. Tech stack, hiring data, growth signals, public pain points all gathered before a word gets written.

  • Desk 02

    Diagnose & write

A senior writer drafts a custom analytical report on the recipient's specific business problem, and frames your solution as the answer. Not a brochure. Not a pitch deck. A diagnostic the buyer would have paid a consultant to write.

  • Desk 03

    Print & bind

Heavyweight cover stock, letterpress accents, hand-numbered, perfect-bound. A hand-signed cover letter from your founder. A wax seal. A piece that nobody throws away because nobody throws away the nicest envelope they'll receive this quarter.

  • Desk 04

    Deliver & follow up

Tracked-courier delivery directly to the decision-maker's office, scheduled to land on a Tuesday morning. LinkedIn follow-up sequence drafted for your account post-arrival. Reply tracking and qualified-meeting handoff straight to your calendar.

Inside the envelope

Six pieces. One desk.

Every package is six considered objects, each one chosen because it earns its place on the desk. Nothing in the envelope is an accident; nothing was a swap-in from a vendor catalogue.

Exploded anatomy of a Markingo ABM package: envelope, wax seal, cover letter, bound report, business card, follow-up plan.

A single quality-inspection bench: bound report under a loupe, wax sticks, courier slip, signed by hand.bench · 5 checks
The bench check

Five checks. Zero filler.

Every piece passes a five-stage bench check before it leaves the workshop. Decision-maker confirmed, research depth audited, problem-fit reviewed, proof signed, courier confirmed. If a step doesn’t clear, the package doesn’t ship that week.

hand-signed · per piece
  1. /01

    Decision-maker confirmed

We mail a person, not a title. The buyer is verified live before the package leaves the bench.

  2. /02

    Research depth audit

Tech stack, hiring data, growth signal, recent press, named pain points, all checked before a word gets written.

  3. /03

    Problem-fit review

Editor signs off the diagnostic frames the recipient's actual problem, not a generic vertical archetype.

  4. /04

    Print proof + signature

Cover letter is hand-signed. Letterpress proof is checked under a loupe. Wax seal applied last, never preprinted.

  5. /05

    Courier confirmed

Tracked, signature-required, scheduled to arrive on a Tuesday, the day buyers actually open their post.

The workshop, after hours

Anyone can mail a postcard. We make a piece of work the recipient keeps, on the desk, then on the shelf, then on the second call.

Letterpress, perfect-bind, hand-finish. The production end of an outbound motion most companies have given up on, and the reason that motion is open ground for the ones who haven’t.

Questions we get

What buyers ask on the second call.

01

Is this just expensive cold mail?

Cold mail is a list. This is a one-to-one diagnostic written for a named buyer at a named account on a problem we verified before we mailed anything. Different motion, different math. A 1.2% reply rate on 20,000 cold emails and an 11-18% reply rate on 100 bound reports lead to wildly different pipeline meetings.
02

Why a courier, not USPS?

USPS rolls a buyer's mail in with bills, junk, and statements, the inbox of the physical world. A tracked courier requires a signature, lands on the desk by Tuesday morning, and pulls the recipient out of triage mode. The package is opened in front of an assistant or in a quiet moment, not buried in a Friday pile.
03

What does the recipient actually see?

A heavyweight kraft envelope, calligraphed, sealed with a single signal-lime wax stamp. Inside: a letterpress cover letter hand-signed by your founder, a perfect-bound report on a problem they're actually living, a tipped-in business card, a follow-up plan. It reads like a piece of consulting work, not a marketing artefact.
04

Does it work for non-enterprise targets?

Yes, anywhere the lifetime value justifies $300-600 of all-in production cost per package. That's mid-market and up for most B2B SaaS, agencies, and service businesses. Below that, the math doesn't carry; we'd point you at the cold-email + LinkedIn motion instead.
05

What's the timeline?

Days 1-7: ICP audit, decision-maker verification, dossier scaffolding. Days 7-14: writing, design, print proof. Days 14-21: production, hand-finish, courier dispatch for Tuesday landing. From day 21: weekly cohorts of 25-50 packages with LinkedIn follow-up running on every recipient.

Ready when you are

A hundred desks.
Each one diagnosed.
Landed by Tuesday.

Day 7: ICP audit + decision-makers verified. Day 14: research and writing signed off. Day 21: production, hand-finish, and a tracked-courier landing on a Tuesday morning. Every cohort, on the same rhythm.
